Flowers are a passion, but recently and quite unexpectedly, birds with their<br />
bright eyes, have crept into my work. My paintings have elements of the<br />
remembered and imagined as well as the observed. <strong>The</strong> decorative always<br />
draws me to a subject: a flower market, patterns on hillsides or the rhythms<br />
of boats bobbing in the harbour. <strong>The</strong> studio <strong>is</strong> a veritable Aladdin’s cave of<br />
objets trouvés. <strong>The</strong> flotsam and jetsam gathered over years that people<br />
my still life paintings. V<strong>is</strong>itors will also find new work, sketchbooks and<br />
paintings in progress.<br />
directions: Follow the A77 from Stranraer to Portpatrick. On approach to village<br />
turn right at War Memorial onto Heugh Road. Follow signs at Fernhill Hotel junction,<br />
turn right onto Golf Course Road. Single track to studio <strong>is</strong> on the left near the top<br />
of Golf Course Road. Parking <strong>available</strong> on Golf Course Road.<br />

(9) where there are excellent eateries. Enjoy spectacular rugged coastal scenery by<br />
joining the Southern Upland Way at Portpatrick harbour (10) Follow cliff path to<br />
Sandeel Bay, with option to return to Portpatrick through the magical Fairy Glen<br />
walk at Dunskey Estate.<br />

My work cons<strong>is</strong>ts of still life, urban landscape, and figurative oil paintings<br />
influenced by my surroundings. My paintings are subconscious translations<br />
of the world around me, and reflect longing and mortality. A momento mori<br />
theme <strong>is</strong> reflected in my still lifes through objects such as trapped goldf<strong>is</strong>h,<br />
cages, maps, and iconic images. My portraits capture figures rooted within<br />
Scott<strong>is</strong>h surroundings, looking d<strong>is</strong>connected - as if longing for something.<br />
My urban landscapes incorporate buildings and doorways that hint at our<br />
inqu<strong>is</strong>itive nature - a way of glimpsing inside another person’s realm.<br />
directions: Follow the signs. Please park outside the castle. <strong>The</strong> studio <strong>is</strong> housed<br />
in the converted stables which are just under the arch. <strong>The</strong>re will also be a “pop up”<br />
tearoom in the courtyard.<br />
