This year my attention has been caught by the countryside around me,
particularly the patterns of hedgerows, field and trees. I try to work outdoors
as much as possible - drawing and sketching across the seasons, setting out
to document their subtle but pronounced effects on the Galloway landscape.
Meanwhile, my interest in kitchen gardens and allotments continues. I use
watercolour and pen-and-ink for larger works and traditional print-making
techniques and materials to create smaller prints and hand-coloured
solar-plate etchings. Displays will outline the printmaking process I use.
I aspire to make useful pots that are well crafted and bring pleasure to
the daily activity of setting a table and eating a meal. My pots are wheel
thrown in stoneware and porcelain clay, glazed and gas fired to high
stoneware temperatures. Recently my work has evolved to incorporate
teapots and other more ornamental forms. Expect to see demonstrations
and examples of work in various stages of production.
