I make practical pieces of lasting quality, using a range of traditional hand<br />

tools and modern equipment. <strong>The</strong> hardwoods of Scotland and the Borders<br />

form the raw material. My furniture incorporates clean lines and a quiet<br />

solidity, with the occasional nod towards Arts and Crafts. Practical and<br />

beautiful: that’s what I’m after. V<strong>is</strong>itors can look around the workshop,<br />

examine different types of wood, see a piece of work in progress showing<br />

joints and construction, and watch hand tools in use.<br />

directions: Head out of Penpont towards Moniaive on the A702. At Capenoch,<br />

turn R at junction signposted ‘Scaur Water’. Craignee <strong>is</strong> 1 mile on the L from the<br />

junction, uppermost of the first two houses you see.<br />

refurb<strong>is</strong>hed and a chef from Edinburgh, with a very good menu. Lower reaches of<br />

I am a painter directly influenced by my surroundings. I am fascinated by<br />

the pastoral, the patterns created and left by the weather and beasts on the<br />

landscape. I try to catch that fleeting moment when the everyday becomes<br />

remarkable. V<strong>is</strong>itors to the studio will find works mainly in oil, mounted<br />

sketches, prints and cards. I will be selling some older pieces at reduced<br />

A mile after Penpont take the right fork signposted Tynron. From village cross bridge<br />

on right. Park in driveway and follow signs to studio at back of steading.<br />

coffee and cakes, lunches, afternoon teas and fine dining. A perfect stop for the<br />

weary spring flinger to recharge their batteries. Tynron Doon (7). Tynron Doon <strong>is</strong><br />

an impressive iron age fortress. An energetic hike to the top will take about 40 mins<br />

from the village hall car park . You will be rewarded with splendid views of the nith<br />

valley from the lowther hills to the Solway<br />
