I work in printmaking and mixed media, often using more than one type of
printing technique and then combining this with drawings, ceramic, fabric
and paper resulting in both 3D collaged works and 2D prints. At present I am
developing work under two themes: I continue to work on whales and the
whaling industry, more recently I have been developing a body of work based
on moths. Visitors will be able to see completed works and visit my studio to
see sketchbooks and preparations for new work.
directions: The house is a short walk (200 yards) from Moniaive on the A702
heading for Dalry. From the Cross in the centre of Moniaive travel up Chapel Street
past the school. Cairnbank is the first house on the left after the humpback bridge
at the outskirts of the village.
recommendations: The Green Tea House (10). The Green Tea House is
situated in the George Hotel on the High Street in Moniaive, and includes lovely
vegetarian dishes. Striding Arches (12). If you feel like exploring you could visit
Andy Goldsworthy’s Striding Arches at Cairnhead Community Forest. The first
arch is located in the byre at the top of the Dalwhat Glen, 7 miles from Moniaive.
The other three arches are on the hill tops in the surrounding area.

My interests remain in the north encompassing Iceland, Shetland and
Orkney and their shared histories of seafaring in difficult waters. Currently
combining etching with more 3Dimensional applications, from artists’ books
to constructions in box frames, messages in bottles and the mesmeric words
of the Shipping Forecast, I’m aiming to create some of the atmosphere of
old forgotten museums. On show will be framed and unframed paintings
of all sizes, etchings, tools and press, touchable sample prints, sketchbooks
showing ideas development and Studio Sale section. I’m happy to discuss
printmaking at any time.
directions: Take A74 south to junction 14 signposted Elvanfoot and Thornhill.
Head for Thornhill then take A702 south for Penpont and Moniaive. Follow the road
through Moniaive, over the bridge up the High Street until you see a Clocktower.
The studio is on the ground floor.
