Question : As shown under Programme (2), the financial provision for Transport for
2003-04 will decrease by 8.6%. Which items of expenses will be cut down
and what areas of work of the bureau will be affected by the decrease in
allocation?

Reply : The decrease of 8.6% in the financial provision for 2003-04 is mainly due
to the transfer of provision in Personal Emoluments to the Works Branch
of the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau (the Bureau) to enable it
to take up the central support functions of office administration, finance
and information technology for the entire Bureau. No public service will
be affected.
