They have not the courage and, endurance of resistance, and there-<br />

fore it is that these diseases of the feet soon begin very materially<br />

to interfere with the condition of the beast. These things would<br />

indicate the propriety of having recourse to the operation of neurotomy.<br />

It is an operation which, resorted to in proper cases, will<br />

often be practised to relieve the torture, and to improve the condition<br />

of ruminants.<br />

Homoeopathic treatment.—Acidurn phosphoricum is an excellent<br />

remedy in most cases. Others have yielded to the efficacy of sulphur,<br />

and of carbon vegetabilis, preceded by a few doses of nux<br />

vomica. Lux recommends the bupodopurinum as specific. Mercurius<br />

solubilis has often rendered great service in diseased feet. At<br />

the onset of the disease, when there is yet only a difficulty of walk-<br />

ing, and some sensibility of the sole, arnica (internally and externally)<br />

and arsenicum may suffice for effecting a cure ; however, even<br />

under such circumstances, acidum phosphoricum has succeeded more<br />

than once, so that it may be considered as the most useful.
