National Church of England, as well as the<br />

1. In offering you a hearty welcome to our country,<br />

and wishing you much gratification from your visit, we<br />

venture to avail ourselves of the opportunity which your<br />

cants of the Church of England that foreigners, who are<br />

likely during the present season to visit our country, should<br />

be correctly informed as to the true character of the English<br />

Church, the more so because we fear it is a subject with<br />

regard to which much misapprehension prevails amongst<br />

them. Members of the Eastern and Western Communions<br />

view the English Church as one of the sects which have<br />

separated themselves from the Church Catholic. Pro<br />

testants, on the other hand, impute to the English Church<br />

much of what they conceive to be opposed to Evangelical<br />
