these attempts to restore the monastic life in<br />

the Anglican Church, as if it were a mere sham.<br />

But why should not the monastic life be rei/<br />

stored amongst Anglicans, while it has<br />

always been preserved among the Greeks, the<br />

Xestorians, and Monophy sites of the East ?<br />

No Catholic talks of the Russian monks, or the<br />

monks of Mount Athos,<br />

as sham monks. It is<br />

admitted eyen that there are monks among the<br />

Buddhists : why, then, in the name of Common<br />

the monastic state in their communion, without<br />

raisin a bigotted and ill-conditioned sneer from<br />

some Catholics,, who ought to be the first to rejoice<br />

at this act of homage to the soundness of those<br />

principles which Catholicity has ever upheld,<br />

but which hitherto Anglicanism had stoutly<br />

contradicted ? For ourselves we are at a loss<br />

to understand what possible interest of Catho<br />

licity, those Catholics, who take this line of<br />
