by painstaking teachers to unlearn much that<br />

has been delivered by those who have been<br />

wrongly instructed, as a part<br />

of GOD S Truth.<br />

By a silent revolution, and not by a religious<br />

cataclasm, must this needful work be carried<br />

out. For thirty years and more a change for<br />

the better has, as we so well know, been<br />

gradually made. Every sermon of positive<br />

Catholic dogma, every Church restored to some<br />

thing of its pristine completeness, each good<br />

book, leavened with the true leaven, has more<br />

or less left its mark on those who have read it<br />

and have helped on the work. The restoration<br />

of Catholic principles, not learnt from foreign<br />

Christians, but gathered from the energising<br />

principles<br />

of the undivided Church, has<br />

been a most powerful means of preparing<br />

the minds of many for first contemplating<br />

the need of Re-union, and then for pray<br />

ing and working for its accomplishment.<br />

The restoration of Catholic practices, of<br />

ritual, the religious life, and of a thoroughly<br />

Christian education for classes who had<br />

been neglected, have given an impetus to the<br />

movement, the breadth and importance of<br />

which has not yet been adequately measured.<br />

Signs of Divine power and extended influence<br />

are apparent on all hands. Still it is only a<br />

work of preparation that can be attempted. As
