other things that I had asserted that there was

taught by the Catholic Church and that which
was professed by Anglicans, and that on that
account there was no obstacle to a Corporate
Re-union between Anglicans and Catholics,
and that such a Re-union might take place
without anv renunciation of Protestant error 011

Anglican Church in her present position was
quite on a par with the Catholic Church herself.
This denunciation of my Essay was made to
the Sacred Congregation, before the arrival of
the two copies of it, which I sent to Rome (as I
have already mentioned), but on their reaching
their destination, Cardinal Barnabo wrote me
a second letter, in which he mentioned the
accusations, while he acknowledged the receipt
of my Essay, which he said he had ordered to
be translated, in order to be better able to judge
of its contents. But, as was quite natural, he
added that if the report of it was correct, no
thing could be further from his intentions than
to give the slightest encouragement to any
proposal for a Re-union on such conditions
but on the other hand he added the following o
