Person <strong>of</strong> the Trinity, as already described, holds<br />

the right h<strong>and</strong> thus, while the central figure, the<br />

First Person, is making the Eastern sign <strong>of</strong> bene-<br />

diction, also explained, with the first, second,<br />

<strong>and</strong> fourth fingers. Again, in the great twelfth<br />

century mosaic <strong>of</strong> our Lord on the tribune <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Cathedral <strong>of</strong> Monreale in Sicily the attitude is the<br />

same as in Fig. 107 though six centuries later,<br />

<strong>and</strong> twelve centuries later than Fig. 136. Although<br />

<strong>this</strong> position <strong>of</strong> the h<strong>and</strong> is that usually assigned to<br />

Him, it is by no means restricted to the Second<br />

Person, for there are several instances where the<br />

Almighty Father is shown in <strong>this</strong> attitude, <strong>and</strong>, further,<br />

the Holy Spirit is portrayed in human form with the<br />

right h<strong>and</strong> raised in <strong>this</strong> gesture '^'^'^<br />
