a. <strong>Navy</strong> recognizes alcohol abuse and dependency are<br />

nreventable and treatable. Commands are responsible for<br />

~dentifying members at risk, obtaining a medical evaluation, and<br />

~rdering members into appropriate intervention and/or treatment<br />

af the first sign of a problem. Members who are alcohol abusers<br />

ir alcohol dependent shall receive education, counseling, and<br />

rehabilitation services medically indicated by the severity of<br />

chelr cond; t i on.<br />

b. Alcohol problems are effectively addressed in most cases<br />

hrough enqaged leadership, immediate intervention, discipline<br />

3s appropriate, education, counseling, treatment, and personal<br />

re~ponsibi~ity. Primary function of treatment programs is to<br />

return the alcohol abuser or alcohol dependent member to full<br />

dilty statss with a positive, productive, and healthy lifestyle.<br />
