. Personal Responsibility. Members are individually<br />

responsible for successfully completing all treatment<br />

recommendations and maintaining a career free of any subsequent<br />

3lcohol abuse.<br />

. Treatment Failures. <strong>Navy</strong> is committed to providing quality<br />

;are for all members in need of alcohol abuse/dependency<br />

,-reatment. Comply with provisions of reference (h). Per<br />

reference fr , however, commands shall process for ADSEP all<br />

nembers considered to be treatment failures, unless a written<br />

dalver LS obtained from NF-VPERSCOM (PERS-832) via OPNAV (N135) .<br />

Per paragraph lb of this enclosure, senior enlisted personnel (E5<br />

dnd above) and officers may be eligible for a second period of<br />

reatment ~f their commanding officer evaluates them as<br />

oossesslng exceptional potential for further useful naval<br />

;ervlce, provlded more than 3 years have elapsed since previous<br />

~ncident. A SARP screening is required to determine amenability<br />

for another period of treatment (refer to reference (c) for<br />

Jnilsted members and reference (d) for officers). A sample<br />

leiter req~esting the ADSEP waiver is contained in appendix A to<br />

-his enclosure.<br />

. T-f? following are examples of treatment failures:<br />

( Any member who incurs an alcohol incident any time<br />

ill thelz career after a period of treatment at Level 1 or above<br />

-hat &as precipitated by a prior incident.<br />

id, Any member who has incurred an alcohol incident, has<br />

:]+en 3 corrndnd referral, or has self-referred, and has been<br />

;rreened by medical personnel and found to be in need of<br />

reatrnerlt dnd who commences but subsequently fails to complete<br />

any prescrlhed treatment or incurs an alcohol incident.<br />

,Conduct, wl-lich amounts to a refusal, failure to complete, or<br />

]on-amenab~~lty shall be determined by the medical officer or<br />

-LP. L'o~d:l(~t which amounts to an alcohol incident shall be<br />

leterminec! hy the member's commanding officer.)<br />

Any member who fails to participate in, fails to<br />

roilo~-, or falls to successfully complete any medically<br />

prescribed dnd command-approved aftercare plan. This<br />
