DAPA (Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor). A collateral duty<br />
:ommand pos~tion (commands with 500 personnel or more shall<br />
-issign d f;l-l-?ime DAPA). DAPA is the commanding officer's<br />
advisor JC all matters relating to alcohol or other drugs.<br />
imong other duties, DAPAs conduct administrative screenings,<br />
prepare required reports (e.g., DAARS), provide prevention<br />
-?ducation. dnd monitor aftercare.<br />
DAPMA (Drug and Alcohol Program Management Activity). DAPMAs in<br />
Norfolk and San Diego provide alcohol and other drug prevention<br />
education t-raining, and technical assistance to <strong>Navy</strong> commands<br />
>11a mobile training teams, residential training, and electronic<br />
nedi d .<br />
Deglamorization. A term used in the alcohol and other drug<br />
dbuse preve1;tion field. It means to "take the glamour out."<br />
3eylaxor~zation is a command requirement and involves not<br />
:2rornotiny alcohol, providing alternatives, assuring that non-<br />
?icoholi: a~~ernatives are available at official functions,<br />
:2rovldiny 4 climate that says "it's okay not to drink," etc.<br />
Jubllc infdrmation and education that provide information on the<br />
;lgn1ficart negative health and behavioral impact of alcohol<br />
plsuse also are elements of deglamorization.<br />
Detoxification. Medical management of the withdrawal from<br />
2lcohol 31 other drugs. Withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs<br />
"an be (I I2:e zhreateninq state for those addicted and requires<br />
nedlcal management, normally in an in-patient status. Symptoms<br />
jary from mild shakes to llfe-threatening convulsions.<br />
3etoxlficat-ion is not treatment but is the medical stabilization<br />
(by drugs, observation, and other means) of individuals going<br />
hraugh ~~ithdrawal. If required, it precedes treatment.<br />
Drink. ~1, drln~ of alcohol is defined as 1.5 ounce of liquor, 5<br />
lunce of .~::ne, or 12 ounce of beer. They contain the same<br />
