EXAS WESTERN COLLEGE which has greatly expanded its facilities<br />
and staff in the last few years offers unusual opportunities through<br />
its location as well as its large faculty and well-equipped buildings.<br />
El Paso, the fifth largest city in <strong>Texas</strong>, has the cultural advantages<br />
of a metropolitan area. There is a local symphony orchestra, under the<br />
direction of an internationally-known conductor. El Paso has a regular<br />
program of ballets, and musical and dramatic productions, and the resi-<br />
dents of the city support many other intellectual and aesthetic activities.<br />
Within a radius of from one to ten miles are found in great variety those<br />
geological formations and structures usually associated with the mineral<br />
industry, not only in metal mining, but in coal mining, oil fields, and non-<br />
metallic deposits as well. In opportunity for geological study, no school in<br />
the United States is more fortunately located.<br />
One of the largest custom smelters in the world is situated near the<br />
<strong>College</strong>. Within a short distance is also a most modern electrolytic copper<br />
refinery, which has the largest capacity of any refinery in the world. Nearby<br />
are located a large cement plant, several large brick plants and three oil<br />
refineries. The manufacture of lime, tile, and other non-metallics is carried<br />
on in the immediate neighborhood of the <strong>College</strong>.<br />
Local and adjacent industries offer opportunities for scientific and busi-<br />
