The art program permits students to specialize in the following directions: Painting,<br />
design. art education, the crafts and graphics. The third digit in course numbers indi-<br />
cates the area: ie, painting 1. life drawing 2, gra hicr 3. metals 4. enamels 5, design 6.<br />
photography , clays 8, art education g. The last Xigit represents. generally, the semester<br />
a course is odred, odd numbers indicating the first semester and even ones the second.<br />
A third dieit o. . eenerallv. - . . indicates a basic rouse.<br />
The Art-~e~arbent reserves the right to keep a limited amount of student work for<br />
exhibition purposes for one year.<br />
Basic Courses For Undergraduates<br />

2103 Basic Design ($2)<br />
A course stressing principles of art, color theory, dimensionality, and other design<br />
qualities. The organization of ideas into creative design. May be repeated one<br />
semester for credit.<br />
2105 Basic Drawing ($2)<br />
Instruction in drawing forms, actions, etc., with emphasis upon learning skill in<br />
drafbnanship and perspective. Skill in various techniques of handling pencil, ink,<br />
charcoal, etc. May be repeated one semester for credit.<br />
3110 Introduction to the Fine Arts<br />
Enjoyments of the Arts through the understanding of their interrelationship and<br />
the expressive elements common to Music. Art. and Drama. DiEerenccs in me-<br />
diums of expression and the tools of each Art. Required of Art majors. Not counted<br />
in addition to Music 3110 or Drama 3110.<br />

3301 Art History and Appreciation<br />
Art from Man's earliest eriod of esthetic expression through the Renaissance.<br />
PrerepuLrite: Junior staniing.<br />
3302 h t History and Appreciation<br />
Study of great art concepts in works of the masters through the post-Renaissance<br />
period to contemporary times. Prerequisite: Junior standing.<br />

2211 Painting ($2)<br />
The development of paintin experience and creative forms. Organization of<br />
composition. May be repeatef one semester for credit.<br />
2311 Painting ($2)<br />
Painting experiences with exploration of mediums of expression. May be repeated<br />
-. one semester for credit. Prerequisite: Two semesters of 2211.<br />
2313 Painting $2)<br />
Portrait an 6 figure painting. with concentration on the specific problems in-<br />
volved, such as form, color, composition, with one or more figures, drapery and<br />
. texture. Techniques of portrait painting. Prerequlsite: Two semesters of anii.<br />
2413 Mural Painting ($2)<br />
Exploration of mural techniques and media. May be repeated one semester for<br />
credit. Prerequisite: Painting 2312.
