they make from the combinations of the case studies.
5. The study programs and the requirements are made clear for students in
the beginning of the course. The hand-outs and copies of the slides demonstrated
are given before the new topic of study. The relevant information
is also available via internet in the home-page of the Chair of Pathophysiology.
6. Despite limited funds, practically all important and modern textbooks written
in Inglish and German languages are available for students in the field
of pathophysiology either in the Library of the Tartu University or in the Library
of Biomeedikum.
7. It has been concluded from the number of discussions that the topics of
pathophysiology should be teached during clinical part of medical education,
i.e. more closely related with teaching of the different diseases. However,
due to subjective and financial problems the relevant organizatory
measures have remained still to be undertaken. To make progress in this
issue, we have recently invited Dr. A. Beilmann, M.D. Ph.D. who works as
a clinician in the field of children diseases, to become a staff member of
our Chair. We hope that in this way the clinical expertize of the Chair will
be improved that, in turn, should positively influence the interaction between
Clinical Departments and Chair of Pathophysiology.
Weaknesses
1. The staff members have still difficulties to effectively use all the opportunities
that the new computer-assisted teaching technologies available in the
Biomeedikum can provide to. A great amount of handouts and other illustrative
material need to be reshaped in a way that it could be used and distributed
by the internet or other computerized networks.
2. According to the regulations in the Faculty, the foreign students and native
Estonian Russian speaking students have to know Estonian language in
order to enter the 3 year program. However, many of the students still
know Estonian insufficiently to understand the instructions in pathophysiology.
3. The student-groups participating in the seminars/practicals in one room in
the same time are too large that significantly limits the possibilities to
stimulate the active work.
4. Currently there is no textbooks on pathophysiology written in Estonian language
available.
II. EVALUATION OF TEACHING
4. How is the quality of the teaching in your department evaluated? How are
the content and the modes of the teaching changed on the basis of evaluation?
The staff members try to create an open atmosphere between them and students.
The students have been interviewed in order to receive the feedback.
