2. At the University level the pathophysiology program is registered and described
in the Catalogue of the Lectures and Practical works. So the
courses in pathophysiology are available for and can be taken by any student
in the University. For almost ten years the Chair of Pathophysiology
has been involved in cooperation with the Faculty of Exercise and Sport
Sciences by teaching the Bachelor’s level course ARMP.03.005 “Pathophysiology”
for physiotherapists. The co-work is coordinated not only in
terms of the content of the program but also financially, as the teaching
services given by the Chair of Pathophysiology are payed by the Faculty of
Exercise and Sport Sciences.
3. At the Faculty level the relationships between pathophysiology and laboratory
medicine have been extensively analysed during the period when
laboratory medicine was introduced as a new discipline in the medical curriculum.
This work was coordinated by the TEMPUS Structural Joint European
Project 7784/94 Development of Academic Laboratory Medicine, with
participation of University of Glasgow, University of Odense, and University
of Turku. The aim of coordination was to maximally avoid overlapping of
the content of programs and to achieve the best synergistic effect of
teaching of different subjects.
4. Coordination of teaching between pathophysiology and pathological anatomy
goes back to early eighties. The new curriculum presumes especially
tight coordination because the subjects are now teached within one block
– pathology (11 credit points).
5. During recent years a new Chair of Immunology has been established in
the Department of General and Molecular Pathology. Due to such a development
the program of pathophysiology has been revised in that the specific
issues of immunopathology have been removed in order to be teached
by the Chair of Immunology.
6. Since the present academic year the detailed study program of pathophysiology
can be found at the homepage of the Chair. This has allowed
the students to be better prepared for the lectures, seminars and practical
works, as well as to inform other Departments.
7. The integration of pathophysiology with other disciplines has been a regular
subject of discussion in frames of the work of the Committee of Curriculum
Development which during last 7 years has been headed by the
Professor of Pathophysiology, Enn Seppet.
