9. Is there a need for rearrangement of the teaching resources in your department?
If so, how should this be done?
There is no need for rearrangement of teaching resources in the Chair, but as
yet mentioned there is need for additional teacher to give for the others the
possibility to take free semester for pedagogic training or research work.
V. COORDINATION OF THE TEACHING
10. How is the teaching co-ordinated with other departments? Indicate the departments
that are closest to your department.
During last renovation of the medical curriculum in the Faculty much of efforts
have been done to coordinate the teaching between different departments.
Thus for the present time studies in immunology are sufficiently well coordinated
with medical biochemistry, anatomy and histology, physiology, microbiology
and pathology (comparison of topics taught). However, sometimes the
coordination is not enough concerning the detailed content of the courses.
Unfortunately, the coordination with courses at the clinical departments is not
so good, except laboratory medicine.
VI. FUTURE PLANS
11. Future plans to improve the teaching given by the department.
• to facilitate more students’ self-learning in way to introduce more problembased
seminars, practical works and to diminish the number of lectures;
• to produce the textbook on medical immunology in Estonian in order to encourage
students’ to learn the basic immunology aspects by themselves;
• to introduce clinical immunology lectures and problem-based seminars into
the curriculum (optimally on the 5 th year) combining teachers with basic
and clinical background in the teaching process;

• to involve more students into elective course finding for them additional
laboratory space.
