9. Is <strong>the</strong>re a need for rearrangement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> teaching resources in your department?<br />
If so, how should this be done?<br />
Histology teaching staff has in moment 3,5 positions - two assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essors<br />
(docents), one full-time assistant and one half-time assistant. There is an urgent<br />
need to convert <strong>the</strong> existing half-time assistant position to <strong>the</strong> full time<br />
position.<br />
V. COORDINATION OF THE TEACHING<br />
10. How is <strong>the</strong> teaching co-ordinated with o<strong>the</strong>r departments? Indicate <strong>the</strong> departments<br />
that are closest to your department.<br />
Teaching <strong>of</strong> general histology and human embryology is co-ordinated with <strong>the</strong><br />
subject Biology (<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> General and Molecular Pathology, Chair <strong>of</strong><br />
Human Biology and Genetics) in <strong>the</strong> subject block Medical Biology I and special<br />
histology (microscopic anatomy) with <strong>the</strong> subject anatomy (<strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Anatomy, Chair <strong>of</strong> Anatomy) in <strong>the</strong> subject block Anatomy and Histology.<br />
Closest to <strong>the</strong> Chair <strong>of</strong> Histology, beside <strong>the</strong> Chairs <strong>of</strong> Anatomy and Surgical<br />
Anatomy, are <strong>the</strong> <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> General and Molecular Pathology (Chair <strong>of</strong><br />
Human Biology and Genetics) and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pathological Anatomy<br />
and Forensic Medicine (Chair <strong>of</strong> Pathological Anatomy).<br />
VI. FUTURE PLANS<br />
11. Future plans to improve <strong>the</strong> teaching given by <strong>the</strong> department.<br />
Plans for <strong>the</strong> future changes aim:<br />
• to renew students' slide collections;<br />
• to complete <strong>the</strong> computer-based learning program for <strong>the</strong> students' individual<br />
work with histological slides;<br />
• to compose new histology textbooks in Estonian;<br />
• to fur<strong>the</strong>r integrate histology teaching with human biology and anatomy in<br />
terms <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> time-schedule and <strong>the</strong> subjects' content.<br />
