9. Is there a need for rearrangement of the teaching resources in your department?
If so, how should this be done?
Histology teaching staff has in moment 3,5 positions - two assistant professors
(docents), one full-time assistant and one half-time assistant. There is an urgent
need to convert the existing half-time assistant position to the full time
position.
V. COORDINATION OF THE TEACHING
10. How is the teaching co-ordinated with other departments? Indicate the departments
that are closest to your department.
Teaching of general histology and human embryology is co-ordinated with the
subject Biology (Department of General and Molecular Pathology, Chair of
Human Biology and Genetics) in the subject block Medical Biology I and special
histology (microscopic anatomy) with the subject anatomy (Department of
Anatomy, Chair of Anatomy) in the subject block Anatomy and Histology.
Closest to the Chair of Histology, beside the Chairs of Anatomy and Surgical
Anatomy, are the Department of General and Molecular Pathology (Chair of
Human Biology and Genetics) and the Department of Pathological Anatomy
and Forensic Medicine (Chair of Pathological Anatomy).
VI. FUTURE PLANS
11. Future plans to improve the teaching given by the department.
Plans for the future changes aim:
• to renew students' slide collections;
• to complete the computer-based learning program for the students' individual
work with histological slides;
• to compose new histology textbooks in Estonian;
• to further integrate histology teaching with human biology and anatomy in
terms of the time-schedule and the subjects' content.
