Under SRI management practices, yields are much higher than national<br />

averages, and correspondingly the nutrient demand <strong>to</strong> support such high<br />

yields is high. In previous SRI trials, the nationally recommended fertilizer<br />

application rate was used. Although yields were high, unproductive tillering<br />

also was high. The null hypothesis in this trial was that the addition <strong>of</strong> extra<br />

nutrient would boost effective tillering and alternately <strong>increase</strong> yield. From<br />

the results, however, addition <strong>of</strong> more nutrients <strong>increase</strong>d tillering, but the<br />

ratio <strong>of</strong> panicle setting did not <strong>increase</strong> (Table 20).<br />
