Emergency Housing Assistance
Very short-term assistance provided to address an immediate housing crisis for those who are homeless or at imminent risk.
GOALS & DESCRIPTIONS
Assistance to help households facing a
crisis that could result in displacement
from their housing
Best where financial crises can be
overcome with short-term assistance
For use when no alternative exists but
living on streets or in substandard/inappropriate
housing
Best when local waiting lists for
affordable housing are relatively short,
and people can transition relatively
quickly
Basic, temporary, overnight sleeping
accommodation
Best where significant homeless
population and much affordable
transitional & permanent housing is
available as a next step
- Often first point of contact for
newly homeless
housing
- Does not address needs of
homeless
- Many need ongoing assistance to
stay in home
- May be costly
cooking facilities or refrigeration,
less privacy for family members
