DMA Operations Guide Install Certificates Dialog Box Certificate Details Dialog Box The Install Certificates dialog box appears when you click Install Certificates in the Commands list. It contains a text input field into which you paste an X.509 or PKCS#7 certificate in PEM format. See also: “Management and Security Overview” on page 9-1 “Certificate Configuration Procedures” on page 9-3 The Certificate Details dialog box appears when you click Display Details in the Commands list. It displays information about the certificate selected in the list, as outlined in the following table. Table 9-4 Sections in the Certificate Details dialog box Section Description Certificate Info Purpose and alias of the certificate. Issued To Information about the entity to which the certificate was issued and the certificate serial number. Issued By Information about the issuer. Validity Issue and expiration dates. Fingerprints SHA1 and MD5 fingerprints (checksums) for confirming certificate. Security Configuration System Security The Security Configuration screen lets you switch between the maximum security mode and a custom security mode in which one or more insecure capabilities are allowed. Caution We strongly recommend always using the maximum security mode unless you have a specific and compelling need to allow one of the insecure capabilities. The following table describes the options in the Security Configuration screen. Table 9-5 Fields in the Security Configuration screen Column Description Maximum Security Recommended setting for normal operation. Custom Security Lets you enable one or more of the following unsecured methods of network access when necessary. Allow Linux console access Enables you to use SSH to log into the system as the Linux user, root. This direct Linux access isn’t needed for normal operation, routine maintenance, or even troubleshooting, all of which can be done through the administrative GUI. This option functions as a safety valve. In extreme circumstances, expert personnel might be able to more fully understand the state of a troubled system or correct problems. There is one supported procedure that involves the temporary use of this option. See below. Allow monitoring via Java Management Extensions The JMX (Java Management Extensions) technology used internally by the system allows certain system states to be monitored and modified using a JMX browser. The JMX monitoring connection is not authenticated or encrypted. This option functions as a safety valve. In extreme circumstances, expert personnel might be able to more fully understand the state of a troubled system or correct problems. There are currently no supported procedures that involve the use of this option. Polycom, Inc. 9–9
