As evident in Table 17, none of the three socio-economic groups elicited the highest<br />

mean number for all five of the possible scoring categories for the revised small and large<br />

pictures. Hence, a diverse array of results was obtained. This finding is in accordance with<br />

Mothuloe (1990) who found no significant differences amongst the 5 to 7 year-old South<br />

African Black Setswana-speaking children from all three socio-economic groups.<br />

Table 18 indicates the Xhosa-, English- and Afrikaans- speaking Black pre-schoolers'<br />

responses to the revised small and large SA and UK pictures.<br />
