KCE reports vol. 40 APPENDICES Physiotherapy 177
1.3.4. Knowledge and use of the ICF concepts
Most of the Belgian ambulatory physiotherapists do not know the concepts of the International Classification of
Functioning, Disability, and Health (85%). Youngest Dutch-speaking physiotherapists with a recent degree had the
better knowledge of the ICF concepts. This probably indicates that Universities/Colleges, especially those belonging to
the Flemish community, currently participate to the dissemination of the ICF knowledge. However, only 4% of the
physiotherapists knowing the ICF concepts use these concepts in their ambulatory practice (e.g., to define the
objectives of the treatment or to determine the patient s evolution).
