2 Centre requirements<br />

This section outl<strong>in</strong>es the approval processes for centres to offer this qualification and any resources<br />

that centres will need <strong>in</strong> place to offer the qualification <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g qualification-specific requirements<br />

for centre staff.<br />

Approval<br />

Exist<strong>in</strong>g centres who wish to offer this qualification must use the standard Qualification Approval<br />

Process. To offer this qualification, new centres will need to ga<strong>in</strong> both centre and qualification<br />

approval. Please refer to the Centre Guide – Deliver<strong>in</strong>g International Qualifications for further<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation. Centre staff should familiarise themselves with the structure, content and assessment<br />

requirements of the qualification before design<strong>in</strong>g a course programme.<br />

Resource requirements<br />

Physical resources and site agreements<br />

Centres need to ensure they have all the necessary equipment to carry out all parts of the<br />

qualification. If there are no facilities for realistic work<strong>in</strong>g environment, centres are advised to<br />

develop l<strong>in</strong>ks with local <strong>in</strong>dustry to provide opportunities for hands on experience.<br />

Human resources<br />

Staff deliver<strong>in</strong>g this qualification must be able to demonstrate that they meet the follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

occupational expertise requirements. They should:<br />

• be technically competent <strong>in</strong> the areas for which they are deliver<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and/or have<br />

experience of provid<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g. This knowledge must be at least to the same level as the<br />

tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g be<strong>in</strong>g delivered<br />

• have recent relevant experience <strong>in</strong> the specific area they will be assess<strong>in</strong>g<br />

• have credible experience of provid<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Centre staff may undertake more than one role, eg tutor and assessor or <strong>in</strong>ternal verifier, but must<br />

never <strong>in</strong>ternally verify their own assessments.<br />

Project Supervisor requirements<br />

Project Supervisors must hold a qualification one level above that which is be<strong>in</strong>g assessed. They<br />

may work with<strong>in</strong> the centre or be from a different centre provided that they have the relevant<br />

qualifications/experience.<br />

Learner entry requirements<br />

Acceptance on to the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Diploma</strong> course is through possession of a relevant <strong>City</strong> & <strong>Guilds</strong><br />

Advanced Technician <strong>Diploma</strong> or Higher National <strong>Diploma</strong>, or equivalent qualification. Acceptance<br />

of other local qualifications would be subject to <strong>City</strong> & <strong>Guilds</strong> checks and approval. Please contact<br />

your local <strong>City</strong> & <strong>Guilds</strong> branch office for more details. The current list of qualifications accepted as<br />

entry is available on request from your local branch office.<br />

Other legal considerations<br />

Centres must ensure that all legal requirements specific to the eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry <strong>in</strong> their country<br />

are adhered to.<br />
