4 Assessment<br />
Summary of assessment methods<br />
For this qualification, learners will be required to complete the follow<strong>in</strong>g assessments:<br />
• one written paper for each unit<br />
• one practical assignment for chosen optional units (please refer to <strong>in</strong>dividual units for<br />
<strong>in</strong>dication if practical assignments are required)<br />
• a practical project.<br />
Assessment types<br />
Dated entry exam – the written test which will take place on fixed dates scheduled by <strong>City</strong> &<br />
<strong>Guilds</strong>.<br />
Practical assignments/projects – these assessments will be carried out at the approved centre<br />
on dates chosen by the centre<br />
Assessments must be carried out accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>City</strong> & <strong>Guilds</strong> International Directory of Exam<strong>in</strong>ations<br />
and Assessments. Please refer to the Directory for the most up-to-date <strong>in</strong>formation.<br />
Grad<strong>in</strong>g<br />
The written question papers are graded pass/merit/dist<strong>in</strong>ction. The practical assignments and<br />
projects are graded pass/fail. The overall units are graded pass/fail, and the overall qualification is<br />
also graded pass/fail.<br />
Record<strong>in</strong>g forms<br />
Record<strong>in</strong>g forms are available on the <strong>City</strong> & <strong>Guilds</strong> website. Although it is expected that new centres<br />
will use these forms, centres may devise or customise alternative forms, which must be approved<br />
for use by the external verifier, before they are used by learners and assessors at the centre.<br />
Amendable (MS Word) versions of the forms are available on the <strong>City</strong> & <strong>Guilds</strong> website.<br />
Recognition of prior learn<strong>in</strong>g (RPL)<br />
Recognition of Prior Learn<strong>in</strong>g (RPL) recognises the contribution a person’s previous experience<br />
could contribute to a qualification. RPL is allowed and is also sector specific.<br />
