The chemical park Marl on the northern-edge
of the Ruhr is one of the biggest chemical
parks in Germany. There are about 10,000
workers spread over 6.5 km2 . About 30 businesses
operate over 100 production facilities
which total too around 900 buildings on site.
The chemical park is networked via German
railways, two highways, a harbor on the Wesel-
Datteln and pipelines for raw materials and products
with customers and suppliers.
The operating company and service provider is
Infracor GmbH, a subsidiary of Evonik Industries
AG. The integration of all systems via BACnet
and a building management system Neutrino-
GLT version 9 from Kieback&Peter enables both
the operator and the tenants to always maintain
an overview of the status of the building systems.
Long term co­operation
For over 30 years, Infracor and Kieback&Peter
have worked in Marl with one another which has
developed into a long-lasting and trusting-relationship.
Through close contact with the various
departments at the factory, it ensures that all
challenges are being met to find optimal, common
solutions.
From analog islands to digital total solution
The latest challenge was the gradual upgrading
of existing facilities. Where previously analog
island solutions were installed, today there is

a network-ready control system on the network
location connected to the central BMS,
so this building automation system is remotely
operated under comfortable conditions, sample
data and events can be observed and recorded.
In order to obtain access, the requirements of
the network operator Infracor had to be exact.
In general, access to all buildings is connected
inside and outside of the chemical park.
The demands from the side of Infracor were selfevident
because of the challenging scale of the
project:
The maintenance staff needs all the relevant
information about all of their supervisory
systems
The customers can get remote access by
demand to “their own” BCS facilities
All customers’ equipment must be switched
to a client-BCS
The system must be open to the integration
of external systems and other trades
Thus Infracor GmbH is in a position to be able to
expand their range of services: On the one hand,
the maintenance technicians can respond independently
to disruptions by the direct access to
the clients systems. On the other hand, the customers
can be offered the use of a BMS, without
it they must acquire it themselves.
Modern technology and powerful software
The requirements were implemented with
DDC4000 automation stations and BMR on the
automation and management level, but also existing
DDC3000 were integrated. DDC4000 automation
system is equipped with BACnet, the automation
stations are connected to the network via BACnet.
At the management level air conditioning cabinets
from Stulz are connected to the building management
system. On the main level room thermostat
and room control modules DDC110 are used.
A Neutrino-GLT Version 9 is used, as a central
building management system with the software
module SM99 client-BCS. For each customer, a
separate BACnet and network area is reserved, so
that the host can see and handle any part of his
own sub-area. About PHWIN the various companies
on their own workstation password protected
access to the building management system.
Optimum customer service
The Marl chemical park is further proof that good
technology goes hand in hand with efficient service.
With the tailored package of Kieback&Peter,
Infracor GmbH is able to continuously optimize the
service offered to its customers.
