four years. Bernhard Isler, Siemens, hitherto
secrectary of the committee, took over the position
of vice-chair, and Michael Osborne, Reliable
Controls, stepped in as the new secretary.
Addenda completed
While at the San Antonio meeting, the ASHRAE
Board of Directors approved two addenda to the
standard and one to the new compilation of the test
standard, ANSI / ASHRAE 135.1-2011. Addenda
approved for publication by the board were:
Addendum 135-2010aa
Channel Object and WriteGroup Service
Addendum 135-2010ak
Miscellaneous Changes
Addendum 135.1-2011j
Miscellaneous Test Changes
Also to be added to this list are the following
addenda. Although these addenda received
comments in their last Publication Public Review
(PPR), the committee decided that the changes
made to resolve the comments were non-substantive
and editorial only. This allowed these
addenda to be moved forward to publication
without further public review.
All these addenda will be, or are already, published.
The four addenda to 135-2010 are
planned to make up protocol revision 1.14.
There was some confusion on addenda to the
test standard. Some were published as addenda
to 135.1-2009 but are actually addenda to the
new compilation, 135.1-2011. Here is the list of
addenda that will be addenda to 135.1-2011, not
to 135.1-2009:
Addendum 135.1-2011j
This got an incorrect cover page and was
inadvertently published as addendum
135.1-2009j. The cover will be modified
accordingly and the addendum republished.
These addenda were erroneously published
as addenda to 135.1-2009 and will be
republished as addenda to 135.1-2011.
Addenda approved for public review
In San Antonio and the following letter ballot, a
number of addenda were approved for initial or
subsequent public review, including addenda to
135-2010 as well as an addendum to the test
standard 135.1-2011. One of these addenda will
undergo an Independent Substantive Changes
(ISC) review. This means that only the substantive
changes from the last review are open for review
and commenting in the Publication Public Review.
The addenda approved for public review were:
The addendum 135-2010aq, Elevator Monitoring,
needs to be mentioned here. The public
review of this addendum was originally set to
close in May, but was extended to August 27,
allowing the elevator industry to announce it at a
large industry event and to have time to review it
after this event.
Other addenda in the works
Addendum 135-2010ai, Network Port object, has
already undergone a number of reviews. The proposed
Network Port object allows network-visible
representation and modification of the settings
of network ports, such as BACnet / IP or MS / TP
ports. The Internet Protocol Working Group (IP-
WG) is working on the resolution of comments
from the last review and completing the feature
set of the object. For BACnet / IP, the object will
support using DNS names for setting up BACnet
Broadcast Management Devices (BBMDs) and
Foreign Devices. The DNS address resolution
is done before the Broadcast Distribution Table
(BDT) is filled in with the respective IP addresses
at the BACnet Virtual Link Layer (BVLL) level. Network
Port object features for IPv6 will be added by
addendum 135-2010aj.
Addendum 135-2010aj, Support of IPv6, has also
undergone some public reviews. This addendum is
also being processed by the IP-WG. Its functionality
is currently being completed and the changes
to the Network Port object required for IPv6 are
being defined. Both BBMDs and Foreign Devices
are to be configured through the Network Port
object, but not by messages on the IPv6 BVLL
level. Therefore, this addendum needs a finalized
Network Port object addendum, without IPv6
aspects of course, before it can be completed.
Addendum 135-2010am, Extensions to BACnet
Web Services, went through its first Advisory
Public Review (APR1) in the fall of 2011. This
addendum replaces the SOAP-based BACnet
Web Services with a RESTful approach based on
the ATOM publishing protocol. The XML Working
Group (XML-WG) is working on preparing a
next revision of the draft for public review. Several
improvements were made since the APR,
such as on topology modeling, replacement of
the current SOAP-based web services, protocol-agnostic
interface structures, and simplified
access to trend and event log buffers.
Addendum 135-2010an, Extended Frames for
MS / TP, was also in Advisory Public Review
(APR1) in the fall of 2011. This addendum adds
large frames to MS / TP and enables MS / TP
to transport IPv6 frames. The MS / TP Working
Group (MSTP-WG) is resolving comments from
the APR, and is working on the harmonious
coexistence of small and large BACnet frames
with IPv6 frames on the same MS / TP datalink.
To complement this, the group is supporting
work on an Internet draft at IETF’s IPv6 Maintenance
Working Group (6man) for a binding of
IPv6 to MS / TP (draft-lynn-6man-6lobac).
Addendum 135-2010ap, Application Interfaces
methodology and infrastructure, completed its
first Advisory Public Review (APR1) in May. The
Applications Working Group (AP-WG) is resolving
comments received and is preparing a next
revision of the draft, intended to go out into
PPR1 in spring 2013.
