Social Carbon Methodology (SCM)<br />
The list <strong>of</strong> approved indicators <strong>for</strong> the SCM ‘Financial’, ‘Human’, ‘Social’ and ‘Natural Resources’ are<br />
as follows:<br />
Financial Resources:<br />
• ability or capacity to access to credit<br />
• participation in goods and services markets<br />
• level <strong>of</strong> household income and savings<br />
• ‘economic and <strong>social</strong> returns’ incl. relative income distribution & distribution <strong>of</strong> financial<br />
assets<br />
Human Resources:<br />
• state <strong>of</strong> family health<br />
• adult literacy level<br />
• pr<strong>of</strong>essional skills in the household (especially agriculture, livestock, extractivism)<br />
• <strong>for</strong>mal education levels<br />
• disease incidence<br />
• work attitudes<br />
• leisure options<br />
• ‘technical competence’<br />
• access to technical extension services<br />
Social Resources:<br />
• level <strong>of</strong> participation in civil organizations<br />
• number <strong>of</strong> people taking collective decisions<br />
• adherence to and actions by institutions representing community<br />
• level <strong>of</strong> dependency on government interventions<br />
• degree <strong>of</strong> community organization - <strong>for</strong>mal associations or community groups<br />
• presence <strong>of</strong> support agencies (especially religious)<br />
• family networks<br />
• internal conflicts and their causes (external or internal)<br />
Natural resources:<br />
• rate <strong>of</strong> de<strong>for</strong>estation<br />
• level <strong>of</strong> fish & wild game stocks<br />
• quality <strong>of</strong> soil & water<br />
• degree <strong>of</strong> fragmentation <strong>of</strong> local ecosystems<br />
