10. In a explorative investigation on the development of electron deficient compounds such<br />

as Ru(bbip) 3 or Ru(Br 2 bbip), the new ligands Br 2 ip, Br 2 bip, and Br 2 bbip were prepared.<br />

However, application of standard procedures for the complexation resulted in both cases in<br />

an unexpected reactivity of the ligand structure and, interestingly, yielded the compounds<br />

Ru(bip) 3 and Ru(Br 2 bip) 3 , as first indicated by NMR-analysis.<br />

The X-ray analysis of the latter exhibited similar properties to the related Ru(bip). From these<br />

results, an impression of the limitations of the ligand stability and the scope of the synthesis<br />

of electron deficient complexes was received.<br />

11. Starting from ip, the new ligands eip and edip were prepared, using methods developed for<br />

the bbip synthesis, and fully characterized. With this development a bridging ligand with<br />
