4 Preparing the <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> System for Operation<br />
4.4 <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> Gauge Calibration Memory<br />
The <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> Gauge is the first ionization gauge with sufficient<br />
long term stability to justify storing calibration data in memory.<br />
The calibration data is stored in a nonvolatile memory in the<br />
electrometer module. <strong>Granville</strong>-<strong>Phillips</strong> calibration data for N 2<br />
is averaged over a number of nominally identical <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong><br />
Gauges and programmed in memory (Standard Calibration).<br />
All <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> Systems are supplied with this feature.<br />

If the <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> Gauge calibration is for a gas type other than N 2 (or air), we suggest placing a label<br />
near the first line of the display indicating the gas type or types used for calibration to prevent mixups.<br />
4.4.1 Memory Modules for <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> Gauge<br />
IG1 and IG2 data is stored independently and must be loaded from separate Memory Modules.<br />
Each module contains data for both cathodes in a <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> Gauge.<br />
New data for each gauge can be transferred to the internal memory using a Memory Module which<br />
has been programmed by <strong>Granville</strong>-<strong>Phillips</strong>. The IG destination for the data contained in the<br />
Memory Module is predetermined at the time it is programmed and is stored along with the data.<br />
The data is individually serialized, and the serial number is printed on the module's label as well as<br />
being stored electronically in the memory.<br />
When the Dual <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> Gauge option is not installed in the Power Supply (as evidenced by only<br />
one IG connector on the rear panel of the Power Supply), two separate Memory Modules can be<br />
used for IG1 by selecting either IG1 or IG2 for gauge operation. If you wish to use this special<br />
capability of the <strong>360</strong>, we recommend that you contact the factory for further explanation.<br />
4.4.2 Using a Memory Module for IG1 or IG2<br />
1. Turn off power.<br />
2. Open front panel door.<br />
Protect the Memory Module from static electricity. Touch a grounded,<br />
unpainted metal surface on the <strong>360</strong> Control Unit and then touch the surface<br />
of the anti-static bag before removing the Memory Module from its bag.<br />
3. Using a high impedance grounding wrist strap or other effective antistatic protection, remove<br />
the Memory Module from its antistatic packaging. Save the antistatic packaging.<br />
4. Plug the Memory Module into the data port with the writing on the module label right-side-up.<br />
5. Turn on power. Within 5 seconds the data in the Memory Module will transfer to main<br />
memory.<br />
6. The last 3 digits of the Memory Module identification numbers will be displayed for a few<br />
seconds and thereafter for a few seconds each time the <strong>Stabil</strong>-<strong>Ion</strong> System power is turned on. If<br />
two Memory Modules are utilized, two numbers will be displayed in sequence in the top<br />
display—the first for IG1, the second for IG2. If the memory contains standard factory supplied<br />
data, the serial number of that data, when displayed, will begin with 0.<br />
