STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (SMS)
Sustain, Support and Defend
Who: Installation Strategic Management System (SMS) Users.
What: SMS required training for all Users.
Purpose: Training must be completed before personnel are
allowed access to SMS by HQ IMCOM.
Summary:
• SMS provides a cross functional snapshot of the Army’s strategic
posture in a top-down, data-driven, performance-metric format.
This automated tool facilitates an enterprise-level approach to Army
decision making and strategy management and serves as an
enabler to bring the Army back in balance.
• Once properly trained all SMS users have the ability to update
and view goal performance indicators or “drill down” to the
performance drivers to see individual task or metric indicators
according to their level of access. Pertinent contact information is
provided at each node within the system, resulting in greater
accountability for strategy execution. This database system will be
used to input Soldier, Family and Civilian Readiness Quarterly
Management Board (SRQMB) data starting in January 2012.
End State: SMS will provide an objective, quantifiable,
synchronized portrait of Army strategy execution in accordance
with The Army Plan, the Army Campaign Plan, and other Army
senior-leader directives. Its intent is to enable Army leaders to
make informed decisions concerning performance goals.
