Chapter 1 1. Introduction 1.1. AC/DC/AC Converters AC/DC/AC converters are part of a group of AC/AC converters. Generally AC/AC converters take power from one AC system and deliver it to another with waveforms of different amplitude, frequency and phase. Those systems can be single phase or three phase. The major application of voltage source AC/AC converters are adjustable speed drives – ASD [15], [63], [65], [140]. The most used voltage source AC/AC converters utilize a DC-link between the two AC systems as presented in Fig.1. 1a,b, and provide direct power conversion as in Fig.1. 1c. 3 ~ 3 ~ 3 ~ Fig.1. 1.
