Weight<strong>in</strong>g: Totals (for <strong>the</strong> sector <strong>and</strong> for all 10 sectors) are weighted by employment <strong>and</strong> should be<br />
read as "enterprises compris<strong>in</strong>g …% of employment <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> sector(s)". Figures for size-b<strong>and</strong>s are <strong>in</strong><br />
% of enterprises from <strong>the</strong> size-b<strong>and</strong>. Figures for <strong>tourism</strong> sub-sectors are <strong>in</strong> % of enterprises from<br />

Use of <strong>ICT</strong> for e-procurement processes<br />
As <strong>in</strong> 2005, e-Bus<strong>in</strong>ess W@tch 2006 asked companies whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>y "support <strong>the</strong><br />
selection of suppliers or procurement processes by specific <strong>ICT</strong> solutions." The rationale<br />
for this question is to fur<strong>the</strong>r test whe<strong>the</strong>r electronic procurement is <strong>in</strong> fact a systematic<br />
<strong>and</strong> digitally <strong>in</strong>tegrated process <strong>in</strong> a firm, or ra<strong>the</strong>r an occasional <strong>bus<strong>in</strong>ess</strong> activity<br />
without much significance for <strong>the</strong> overall <strong>bus<strong>in</strong>ess</strong>.<br />
The average figures on <strong>the</strong> use of specific <strong>ICT</strong> solutions for e-sourc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>tourism</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry (12%) is similar to <strong>the</strong> average of all 10 sectors surveyed (9%). The application<br />
of such specific <strong>ICT</strong> solutions for e-procurement is clearly a doma<strong>in</strong> of travel agencies<br />
<strong>and</strong> tour operators, while companies from <strong>the</strong> accommodation <strong>and</strong> gastronomy sectors<br />
are only m<strong>in</strong>or users of such systems (see Exhibit 3-19).<br />
Those companies which have procurement systems <strong>in</strong> place tend to use <strong>the</strong>m for several<br />
functions, but ma<strong>in</strong>ly for f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g suppliers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> market (69%), <strong>in</strong>vit<strong>in</strong>g suppliers to quote<br />
prices (58%) <strong>and</strong> plac<strong>in</strong>g orders (76%). These f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs are comparable with <strong>the</strong> results <strong>in</strong><br />
most o<strong>the</strong>r sectors (see Exhibit 3-21). Procurement via onl<strong>in</strong>e auctions is practically<br />
negligible <strong>in</strong> <strong>tourism</strong>.<br />
