dummies: never married, ever married, <strong>and</strong> other (as a base category) <strong>and</strong> the years of<br />
schooling is represented in five dummies: no education, primary education, secondary<br />
education, high education, <strong>and</strong> college & university education (as a base category), the<br />
third category of explanatory variable relate to the economic activities of the respondents<br />
<strong>and</strong> is represented by six: agriculture, manufacturing, construction, commerce-hotels,<br />
transport-storage, <strong>and</strong> services (as a base category), the fourth category is the region of<br />
the respondents <strong>and</strong> is represented by two dummies: West bank, <strong>and</strong> Gaza strip (as a base<br />
category), the fifth category is the district of the respondents <strong>and</strong> is represented in 16<br />
dummies variable: Jenin, Tubas, Tulkarem, Nablus, Qalqilya, Salfeet, Ramallah, Jericho,<br />
Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Hebron, North Gaza, Deir Al Balah, Khanyounis , <strong>and</strong> Rafah (as a<br />
base category), the sixth category is the locality type of the respondents <strong>and</strong> is represented<br />
by three dummies: urban, rural, <strong>and</strong> camp (as a base category).<br />
Data used in this study came from the Labour Force Survey conducted by the<br />
<strong>Palestinian</strong> Central Bureau of Statistics in 2003, which includes about 90237 individual<br />
observations. 1 Individuals are classified into one of the following categories:<br />
1. Unemployed: individuals who are not working but are actively looking for work.<br />
2. Underemployed: part-time workers or individuals who are working less than fulltime<br />
hours (36 hours per week).<br />
3. Employed: individuals who are working full-time hours (more than 36 hours per<br />
week)<br />
Tables in the statistical annex describe the status of labour force in the <strong>Palestinian</strong> Territory.<br />
