The HETMAN Themed Suites
at the Premier Palace
Слово «гетман» (по-украински
«гетьман») происходит от
немецкого «Hauptmann» –
«начальник». В средневековой
Украине гетманами называли
верховных военачальников
Войска Запорожского, а после
освободительной войны
1648–1657 гг. – главу казацкого
государства. Гетманские указы
назывались «универсалами»
и были обязательными для всего
населения. Символами власти
гетмана считались
булава и бунчук.
The Ukrainian term “Hetman”
comes from the German word
“Hauptmann”, which means “captain”
or “commander”. This term was
widely used in Ukraine during the
Middle Ages to denote the commanders
of the Zaporizhian Cossacks.
Following Ukraine’s liberation war
of 1648-1657, this title was eventually
given to the head of the Cossack
state. The decrees issued by the
Hetmans were called “universals”
and were binding upon all the whole
population, while the symbols of the
Hetman’s power were the bulava
(“mace”) and the horsetail.
