Assemble rear clutch piston into rear clutch cylinder as<br />
follows:<br />
Install new inner seal on hub of clutch cylinder with lip<br />
down (Fig. 821.<br />

Spring Retainer Snap Ring<br />
Install new outer seal on piston with lip facing away from<br />
spring bore side.<br />
Install piston into cylinder using flat edge of screw driver<br />
to start seal into cylinder (Fig. 83).<br />

Install eight clutch release springs into bores in piston.<br />
Place spring retainer on springs with tangs facing up.<br />
Compress springs using tool J-4670 and J-6129.<br />
Install snap ring which holds release spring retainer and<br />
remove compressor tools (Fig. 84).<br />
Install rear unit sprag assembly in rear unit outer race with<br />
shoulder side of sprag on counterbored side of outer race<br />
(Fig. 85)<br />
Install sprag and outer race on rear unit inner race. Push<br />
sprag part way down through outer race; then rotate sprag<br />
counterclockwise to assemble (Fig. 86)..<br />

Install rear unit sprag retainer in rear unit outer race with<br />
large outside diameter "up." Push retainer down to expose<br />
snap ring groove.<br />
Install spiral snap ring on rear unit clutch hub (Fig. 87).<br />
Install rear unit cylinder and sprag assembly into rear<br />
clutch drum with sprag side up.<br />
Secure cylinder and sprag assembly to rear clutch drum<br />
with large snap ring .<br />
Install neutral clutch drum on rear unit with driven<br />
clutch plate lug slots "up" (Fig. 88).<br />
Apply Hydra-Matic oil to five clutch drive plates<br />
(composition) and four driven plates (steel). Install plates
