With some modifications, staffing could follow the proposed structure of the State Park Unit<br />
within the Perlis State Forestry Department (PSFD/DANIDA, 2002). In order of decreasing<br />
hierarchy, the proposed organisational structure consists of the following positions detailed in<br />
Table 6.1 and illustrated in Figure 6.2.<br />

Job Description and Chain of<br />
Command<br />
Initially should be at least on par with the<br />
District Forest Officers (DFO) with G41<br />
grade, but as the responsibilities increase in<br />
line with improved operations and facilities,<br />
should be upgraded to a higher grade (Senior<br />
Asst Forestry Director, G44). Usually,<br />
seniority in the forestry department is based<br />
on the size of forest areas managed, but the<br />
role of a protected area is in conservation,<br />
research, tourism, promotion, and public<br />
relations, and greater recognition should be<br />
placed on this mix of responsibilities placed<br />
