Field Value/Status Detail Used by jetting module Assigned If this is not assigned, the printer will not receive a cue. Compensation Enabled After the third missed cue, printing will stop. Not Enabled Will continue printing but missed cues will leave blank pages. Job cue interval Nothing to enter; this field shows the cue interval specified in the job. Cue tolerance 0.01 to 0.25 A larger tolerance gives shifting of the printed material to cue marks. Max. missed cues 0 to 999 Cue compensation replaces occasional missed cues with generated cues. The number of consecutive generated cues can be limited in order to prevent cue drift and to notify the operator of a problem. If the number set for Max. Missed cues is more than, printing is stopped and an error message shows. Enter a number in this field. The range is 0 to 999. If you enter 0, the system ignores all missed cues and continues printing with generated cues. The recommended value is 3. Values greater than 3 can mask actual cueing errors and give image drift. If multiple cues are use, this value applies to all cues. Max. rejected cues 0 or higher This is the maximum number of cues received outside the cue tolerance before which an error will be signaled. This error is similar to the Max. missed cues error detection. This value is the number of rejected cues that are counted in a row before an error is signaled. You can ignore rejected cues by entering 0. Override As necessary Applies only to the first sensor, cue A. Polarity Normal or Describes the cue mark. inverted Startup delay Distance As measured The distance between the most upstream cue sensor (A) and each downstream cue sensor (B, C, and D) must be specified in this group box. Verify As necessary When checked, the appearance of the cue mark is verified for the given startup delay. Generate As necessary Gives printing of additional documents within the given cue interval. Generate count As necessary If more than one document is printed for each cue, give the number of additional documents per cue. Advanced Operations Use an MPC Manual Setup Calculate the Speed Comp Value Speed compensation corrects the print registration for different characteristics of low-speed and high-speed printing. Because this value is optional if only one jetting module is in your printing system, the typical entry for speed compensation is 0.1 ± 0.05. It is possible that the value is necessary for jobs to have one of these characteristics: • Running at high speeds and at low speeds • Running at speeds that change frequently • Stitching jetting modules • Printing to fit on preprinted material The procedure prints test pages at a slow speed and then at a high speed. At a high speed, the ink drops will shift upstream without speed compensation, and this shift is seen in comparison to preprinted cue marks, text, or graphics. These tools are necessary for this procedure: • A web preprinted with cue marks or an image with a clear leading edge • A measuring loupe, 7X minimum, with scale intervals of 0.005 or smaller 1. Use a web that is preprinted with cue marks or other preprint for each document. This makes a common measurement point. Here are some other facts to consider: • The downstream edge of the cue mark or preprint will be used as a common measurement point. • If the web is not preprinted, use a cross-perforation, if available. • If the web is not preprinted or preperforated, use the downstream edge of the image or text printed by the jetting module that also prints a cue mark for downstream cue sensors. Set the speed comp value for this printhead to 0.100 in. (0.254 cm). • If necessary, use the downstream edge of the image or text printed by the first jetting module (the most upstream jetting module). Set the speed comp value for this jetting module to 0.100 in. (0.254 cm). 2. The steps that follow work well for a well-separated image from each jetting module: a. If the printed image is very complex, disengage all jetting modules but the first, then do the procedure. b. Then engage each downstream jetting module and do step 3 through step 9 again for the jetting module. Operator’s Guide 87
