trypanosomes. To understand how this can be,<br />

and for further information about <strong>trans</strong>cription<br />

in trypanosomes, the reader is referred to<br />

Chapter 3. Although both bloodstream and<br />

metacyclic ESs are <strong>trans</strong>cribed by Pol I, the<br />

sequences of the two promoters differ, and<br />

they are probably differently regulated. What<br />

is similar is that each cell fully <strong>trans</strong>cribes only<br />

one ES.<br />
