Mr. Dilip Chenoy
The Prime Minister has set a
national goal of skilling 500
million people by 2022. The
National Skill Development
Corporation (NSDC) was
formed as a public private
partnership to promote skill
development. The NSDC has
been given a goal to promote
the skilling/up skilling 150
million people by 2022 by fostering
collaborative models.
Some estimates put the total
spend of the Central Public
Sector Enterprises (CPSEs)
on items under Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) at over
Rs. 1123 cr during the last two
years. Great work is being done
under the leadership of the
corporations.
The corporations follow the directives
while allocating their
CSR budgets including that
the Investment in CSR needs
to be project based, CSR initiatives
should involve suppliers
of CPSEs and should work towards
National Plan goals and
objectives, Initiatives / Projects
related to sustainable development
should form a significant
element of CSR initiatives undertaken
by CPSEs and implementation
of CSR guidelines should
form a part of the Memorandum
of Understanding that is signed
each year between the CPSEs
and the Government. This is all
well known to the readers of this
journal.
Since 2010, when it first started
supporting a sustainable model
of skill development, the NSDC
Board which has the Secretary,
Ministry of Labour, Secretary
Ministry of Micro and Small
be identified to be supported. The
Recently, the National Manufacturing
Competitiveness Council
(NMCC) had organised a series
of meetings with CPSEs to discuss
the possibilities of expanding
the great work being done by
the corporations and the opportunities
