CCTV, security measures,
access control and building automation
practices.
These skill sets will come handy
as ITPO is in the process of giving
concrete shape to its plan
for re-development of ‘Pragati
Maidan’ to make it a world- class
Convention Centre, in the coming
years. Employees are being
trained for taking on convention
activities by offering turn-key
solutions to various Government
Departments & Organisations, to
ready them for the skills required
for a world-class Exhibition-cum-
Convention Centre.
Significantly in line with the priority
accorded by the Government
of India to skill development
in India’s economic progress,
‘Skilling India’ was the theme of
ITPO’s flagship event – India Int’l
Trade Fair 2012. The theme figured
prominently in the display
scheme of all States/UTs as well
as stand-alone pavilions.

the both quantity and quality of
these personnel, which will matter
to the effective management of
an organization.
It is, further, envisaged that there
will be large number of developmental
organizations who will be
engaged in delivering one or other
elements of skill development
value chain as mentioned earlier.
Quality of such organizations
will play very important role in
their success. Customer organizations,
who would acquire trained
personnel on employment or contractual
basis, have to be assertive
in getting quality products. Skill
development agencies will, therefore,
require to be accredited by
National or International agencies
for their quality delivery.
Ultimately, these organizations
may be asked to comply with
various international standards
like ISO 29990: 2010 for training
providers, ISO 17024:2003 for
testing and certification agencies
etc. so as to ensure quality performance
of these independent
organizations. It is heartening to
note that the apex organization on
quality in India – Quality Council
of India (QCI) has already developed
and has been using related
Accreditation Criteria for many
of the skill development organizations
to ensure building up
quality in their organizations.
In regard to relationship with
corporate bodies, these development
agencies are also required
to be managed in such ways, as
presently being done by many
corporate houses for suppliers of
critical bought-out parts, materials,
etc. on the basis of supply
chain management principles.
Many of the large scale public sector
organizations, thus, may have
to manage different independent
quality suppliers of critical skills
as a part of “Extended Enterprise”
model while formulating their
strategic decisions. Managing skill
development activities, which is
being performed presently as a
part of CSR activities, may have
to be finally transformed into an
important strategic decision making
option. Here lies critical role
of public sector organizations to
play in future skill development
landscape.
