23 Students of GAIL
Utkarsh Programme make
it to the IITs
Under Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR) initiative of GAIL
(India) Limited, 23 students of
the GAIL Utkarsh-flagship programme
at Kanpur have made
it to various Indian Institutes of
Technology (IITs). Under this
programme, 100 students belonging
to the economically backward
strata of the society were provided
with a free residential coaching
programme for the AIEEE/
JEE entrance exams. The training
and expert coaching was provided
under the mentorship of
Shri Abhyanand for 11 months.
In the new pattern started by JEE
Test, 81 students cleared the main
exam of IIT JEE.
Stree Shakti (CSR initiatives
for empowering poor
women for self-reliance by
NTPC Kahalgaon)
NTPC Limited has supported
DISHA society for implementing
a project under CSR for two years
from November 2012 in ten villages
surrounding NTPC Super
Thermal Station Kahalgaon in
Tanishka Kotia, sponsored by REC won WFM (Women FIDE Master) in 14th
ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championship held at Thailand.
Bhagalpur district, Bihar and in
Godda district, Jharkhand. The
aim of the project is to empower
the poor women to develop ability,
becomeself -reliant and bring
about improvement in the quality
of their life through increased
participation in community development
programs.
Many of these SHGs have been
linked with banks for delivery of
micro-credits for starting some
small business. Skill training in
tailoring and handicrafts has
been very useful and around 90
women have participated in these
training conducted in their village
so far. They are considering
starting their own ventures for
earning extra income.
REC sponsored Tanishka
Kotia wins WFM Title
REC sponsored Tanishka Kotia
under its CSR activities won
WFM (Women FIDE Master) in
14th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess
Championship held at Thailand in
June 2013 after giving unbeatable
performance at the tournament.
Tanishka won the championship
almost 2 rounds before by continuously
winning 7 rounds of
the total 9 rounds. In all rounds
she scored 8 points out of possible
9 points. Tanishka gave such
a tough competition that she left
her nearest competitor behind by
1.5 points. In the Championship
there were 426 top players from
14 countries viz. Bangladesh,
China, Hong Kong, Indonesia,
India, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand,
Taipei, Vietnam and Russia participated
under various categories.
Earlier Tanishka Kotia at
the age of 3 years 11 months
was recorded as Youngest Chess
Player by Limca Book of world
Records 2008. Subsequently she
again made a history by getting
International Rating at an early
age of 6 years, the age when the
World Champion Vishy Anand
started learning Chess.
