Skill Development in ITPO -
A Continuous Process

ITPO is entrusted by the
Government to manage
the iconic ‘Pragati Maidan’
Exhibition Ground in the heart of
National Capital Delhi.
The ground for the last more
than four decades has hosted innumerable
exhibitions and trade
shows and has been a catalyst in
its crucial role of nation building
through global trade exchanges.
Particularly in the last 10 years regional
exhibition grounds such as
the ones in Chennai, Bengaluru
and Guwahati have been set up
to spread exhibition led growth
in regional areas.
To achieve excellence, ITPO has
always recognized the importance
of human capital, which
contributes the largest chunk to a
nation’s wealth. For skill development
and capacity building of its
1000 strong employees, ITPO has
adopted innovative approaches
such as recognition of prior learning,
changing attitude towards
skill based education, team based
initiatives and innovative training
methods to inculcate leadership
skills and behaviour in employees
at all levels, apart from
focusing on team building and
arming its employees with new
professional skill sets.
Professionals have been imparting
training to employees on areas
covering behavioral aspects,
security, finance and engineering.
Senior executives are to be trained
in risk management by the Indian
Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT).
As many as 60 security personnel
were trained by Delhi Fire Service
in fire fighting and handling various
kinds of equipment. To enhance
IT capabilities, employees
have been trained with basic
and advanced skill development
modules comprising learning
in event specific interactive
Websites. Skills have also been
developed to access the trade related
Websites, on-line booking
of exhibition space, on-line payment
and registration processing
for the Indian and overseas participants.
Recently, training was
imparted by National Informatics
Centre (NIC) to officers for e-
publishing and e-procurement
on Central Public Procurement
Portal (CPPP).
With a view to further enhance
the skills of ITPO officials of
Civil, Electrical and Architecture
Departments, ITPO has planned
a comprehensive training programme
on a variety of subjects
relevant to ITPO. These include
: structural design using STAAD
(including seismic resistant design),
architectural design and
planning of buildings in different
climatic regions of India,
planning of sub-stations, DG sets
and UPS, labour laws with reference
to building and construction
workers, contract management
and arbitration, retrofitting and
rehabilitation of buildings, green
