2. Topsoil should.. be segregated from- subsoil and<br />
stockpiled for later application -.on;. .. the<br />

3. Only seed of registered quality and germination<br />
success should be utilized.<br />
4. Appropriate seeding techniques should be used,<br />
such as drill seeding on level terrain and<br />
broadcast or hydroseeding on slopes to ensure<br />
distribution of seed mixture on individual<br />
microenvironments.<br />
5. The Applicant should use mulch material, such<br />
as straw and woodchips, as a temporary erosion<br />
measure and to minimize soil temperature fluctuations<br />
and soil moisture loss. Mulch should<br />
be applied more heavily on slopes than on<br />
level terrain and nitrogen levels adjusted to<br />
reflect the increased demand ' during mulch<br />
decomposition.<br />
6. The seeded area sb~uld be covered and compacted<br />
following seeding.<br />
. 7. A minimum of 20 lbs./acre of pure live seed<br />
should be used throughout the route.<br />
8. For slopes and construction areas near waterways,<br />
a variety of methods including sediment<br />
raps, berms, slope drains, toeslope ditches,<br />
diversion channels, , ,.sodding, and mulching<br />
should be used.<br />
9. Reclamation ehould be monitored, and regrading<br />
eroded surfaces and revegetating areas not<br />
successfully reclaimed should be undertaken.<br />
d. Provisions for Areas o'f special Concern<br />
1. Stream Crossings. Banks should be stabilized<br />
with naturally occurring trees, shrubs, and<br />
grass. Rip-rap or gabions should be used only<br />
as a supplement or where such -methods would<br />
improve fish habitat.<br />
2. Construction Sites. All litter, debris, .and.<br />
soils associated with petroleum spills should<br />
be removed prior to reclamation. An approved<br />
landfill may be used.<br />
