In one of seven coordinated bombings targeting<br />
Algerian police forces in the countryside east of Algiers,<br />
a bomb was detonated by the al Qa’ida affiliate known<br />
as al Qa’ida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb; in<br />
total, six people were killed and 30 wounded in the<br />
coordinated attacks.<br />
Al Qa’ida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb planted<br />
a bomb that later exploded as a convoy carrying Russian<br />
workers passed, killing seven and wounding five.<br />
Militants belonging to the affiliate al Qa’ida in Palestine<br />
fired 11 bullets at the car of the director of the United<br />
Nations Relief and Works Agency in Gaza, who escaped<br />
the assassination attempt; no one was injured in the<br />
attack.<br />
Al Qa’ida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb remotely<br />
detonated a bomb in downtown Boumerdes. The<br />
bomb’s intended target was the police chief, but his<br />
convoy passed before the bomb detonated, causing only<br />
limited damage to surrounding buildings.<br />
Al Qa’ida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb<br />
detonated three suicide car bombs near a government<br />
building in an apparent assassination attempt against<br />
the prime minister, killing 23 and wounding 162 others.<br />
The bombings were coordinated to coincide with a<br />
second attack against an Algiers police station.<br />
Militants from al Qa’ida Organization in the Islamic<br />
Maghreb detonated a bomb at a police station in<br />
Algiers, killing eight and wounding 50. The bombing<br />
was coordinated to coincide with a second attack on the<br />
office of the prime minister.
