Performance Indicators<br />

<strong>Mid</strong>-<strong>Western</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Council</strong> has been submitting performance information about its<br />

sewerage scheme to the Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability for inclusion in<br />

its annual State-wide performance reports. This will allow <strong>Council</strong> to compare its system<br />

against equivalent councils and then undertake benchmarking to identify items and<br />

methods for future improvement. A Triple Bottom Line (TBL) approach has been adopted<br />

to collate the information.<br />

Performance Indicators<br />

Following comments can be made when comparing <strong>Council</strong>’s sewerage scheme to the<br />

rest in the State:<br />

☺<br />

− New sewerage connections to <strong>Council</strong>’s sewerage scheme is slightly<br />

above the 2005/06 State median level<br />

−<br />

Typical residential bill for sewerage has been slightly above the State<br />

median level<br />

−<br />

<strong>Council</strong> has low sewerage developer charges that is below State average<br />

☺<br />

− Number of odour complaints have reduced during the last two-years with<br />

no complaints being reported<br />

<br />

− While <strong>Council</strong> is fully compliant with BOD in DEC licence conditions,<br />

some level of non-compliance has been reported with regard to SS<br />

(suspended solids) in the discharges<br />

<br />

− Number of sewer main chokes and collapses shows an increasing trend,<br />

but remained slightly below State average in 2005/06<br />

<br />

− Operating and treatment costs show an increasing trend and are slightly<br />

above State average for the last two years<br />

☺<br />

− <strong>Council</strong>’s management cost for sewerage scheme is at par with State<br />

average<br />

− <strong>Council</strong> is among top 20% of councils with low pumping costs<br />

<strong>Mid</strong>-<strong>Western</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> <strong>Council</strong><br />
