<strong>Council</strong> recognises that a monitoring telemetry system leads to best operating efficiency<br />
and improves resource utilisation. Further operations planning requirements for the<br />
<strong>Council</strong> are:<br />
• Updating system operating rules and performance requirements for all<br />
subsystems and facilities;<br />
• Implementing an effective Assets Management System that will enable<br />
identification of conditions of assets from assets register and maintenance<br />
reports; and<br />
• Compliance with OHS requirements<br />
Main operational issues include the following:<br />
• Optimising operations to reduce costs<br />
• Monitoring of operational performance<br />
• Review and document operating procedures<br />
Occupational health and safety hazards in the <strong>Council</strong>’s sewerage operations include:<br />
• Bacterial contamination<br />
• Falling into storages/ lagoons<br />
• Falling off structures<br />
• Moving heavy mechanical parts<br />
• Chemical exposures and handling<br />
• Injuries due to sharps<br />
• Electrical injuries<br />
• Confined spaces<br />
<strong>Council</strong> has developed an OH&S Policy outlining the roles and responsibilities of all<br />
employees within the <strong>Council</strong>. As part of <strong>Council</strong>’s ongoing commitment to Occupational<br />
Health and Safety requirements, all staff are familiar with the amendments to the OH&S<br />
Act, Local <strong>Government</strong> Act 1993 and the Protection of the Environment (Operations) Act<br />
1997.<br />
On an annual basis the sewerage schemes including the treatment plant, pumps,<br />
reticulation lines and other associated areas are reviewed to ensure all risks are assessed<br />
