Economics as a Support Area:<br />
For students who take economics as a support area (a basic discipline), the General<br />
Examination requirement is the completion <strong>of</strong> six <strong>of</strong> the courses listed below with a<br />
minimum grade point average <strong>of</strong> “B”. At least two <strong>of</strong> the six courses must be in<br />
Microeconomics. At least one course, and no more than two courses, must be chosen from<br />
each <strong>of</strong> Macroeconomics and Empirical Analysis. If a student takes a course more than once,<br />
the highest grade will be used to calculate the grade point average. No written General<br />
Examination is required.<br />
Microeconomics: At least 2 courses from: E30100, E30200, E30300 – Price <strong>The</strong>ory I,<br />
II, III; B33101 – Advanced Micro Analysis.<br />
Macroeconomics: At least 1 course and no more than 2 courses from: E33000, E33100,<br />
E33200 – <strong>The</strong>ory <strong>of</strong> Income I, II, III. For students writing dissertations in Accounting,<br />
Marketing, MOB, MS/OM, or O&M, the microeconomics course B33911 – Economics<br />
<strong>of</strong> Information may be substituted for E33000, E33100 or E33200.<br />
Empirical Analysis: At least 1 course, and no more than 2 courses from: E31000,<br />
E31100, E31200 – Empirical Analysis I, II, III; B41901 – Probability and Statistics,<br />
B41902 – Statistical Inference, B41903 – Applied Econometrics; or other, more<br />
advanced, statistics or econometrics courses such as B41910 – Time Series Analysis for<br />
